About Caregiver Programs

Canada's caregiver programs provide qualified caregivers with the opportunity to obtain permanent residence after gaining Canadian work experience. These programs are designed for individuals who provide care for children, elderly persons, or people with medical needs in private homes.

Current Caregiver Pilots

Home Child Care Provider Pilot

For caregivers providing child care in private homes without supervision

  • • Care for children under 18
  • • Work in private home
  • • NOC 4411 occupations
  • • Pathway to PR after 24 months

Home Support Worker Pilot

For caregivers providing care for elderly persons or people with disabilities

  • • Care for elderly or disabled
  • • Work in private home
  • • NOC 4412 occupations
  • • Pathway to PR after 24 months

Program Requirements

  • ✓ Genuine job offer from Canada
  • ✓ Meet language requirements (CLB 5)
  • ✓ Post-secondary education (1 year+)
  • ✓ Relevant training or experience
  • ✓ Admissibility to Canada
  • ✓ Intend to live outside Quebec
  • ✓ Work experience not required initially
  • ✓ Meet occupation-specific requirements

Application Process

Step 1: Work Permit Application

Apply for specific occupation work permit with PR application submitted simultaneously.

Step 2: Gain Canadian Experience

Work full-time for at least 24 months within 36 months of arrival in Canada.

Step 3: Submit Work Experience Evidence

Provide proof of qualifying work experience to IRCC for PR assessment.

Step 4: Permanent Residence Grant

Receive confirmation of permanent residence upon meeting all requirements.
